Brief

Friends Create has directed and edited numerous videos for International recording artist Poolside. Two collaborative highlights have been for the music video Feel Alright, where they filmed skateboarder Braydon Szafranski skateboarding from Arizona to Utah in a subtle homage to the Forest Gump run across the country scene; and for Everything Goes, where they travelled to Cuba and embedded with local musicians experiencing the culture in a unique and immersive way.

FORBIDDEn GLOBAL AWARENESS

Cuba has always called to us - the vintage cars, the tropical colors, the majestically crumbling buildings, the music, the music, the music! We have an irresistible attraction to the artistic, celebratory spirit of our nearby neighbors that we’ve been forbidden to visit.

We wanted to take some chances with this video - to work fast and loose and let the place, the moment, and the people reveal what the video should be. Our only plan was to stuff our backpacks with as much film gear and donated electronics, diapers, toys, and chocolate as we could, meet as many musicians and people as possible, and create a spontaneous love poem to Havana.

The result is a wild, tumbling, enchanting, bucket-list adventure, meeting new friends and living from moment to moment in a place and culture that radiates music, rhythm, and joy.

We never could have planned the incredible intimacy and access that was extended to us - the credit goes entirely to the wonderfully generous people that welcomed us into their world. We just kept our cameras ready and focused ourselves on Everything Goes’ themes of impermanence and embracing life’s amazing moments.

As immigration continues to be a divisive conversation in the US, it’s essential to understand that humans are humans, and our commonalities far exceed our differences.
