Challenge

Jerde, one of the world’s leading architect firms, celebrated its 40th anniversary at its new offices in Downtown Los Angeles and wanted to make an impression on its select group of attendees. The company engages over a billion people a year, designing shopping centers, hotels, apartment complexes, Olympic stadiums, and innovative spaces. Friends Create honored Jerde’s legacy with a branded installation that elegantly displayed the company’s accomplishments surprising and inspiring those who came to celebrate.

Solution

After initial collaborative sessions teasing out the company’s vision for its 40th Anniversary & multiple site visits to map out the space, friends determined that an interactive environment could inspire guests.

 

IMMERSIVE VISUAL DISPLAY

Jerde wanted something experiential to showcase their past and present accomplishments, and unveil future projects to come. To achieve this impact we edited together hours of existing company footage creating abstract, glass layered textures that moved as if the images were on a geographical canvas. We then used 4K projectors to display larger than life visuals on the room’s two walls, with a center division in the projection where the walls connected, giving the installation depth and movement, drawing attendees into the architectural wonders Jerde creates. Overlaid with a custom contemporary soundtrack, the room quickly became a hangout for people to converse and feel proud of Jerde’s mission: “We are explorers. We are optimists. We are believers in possibility.”

ANIMATED ENTRANCE LOGO & SONIC IDENTITY

When guests stepped off the elevator to arrive at the event they were immediately greeted by an animated projection of Jerde’s logo on a large scale textured geode exhibition created by LA based artist, Paige Smith @acommonname (whom occasionally works with us as a Sr. Designer). The logo movement is subtle, choreographed to a bespoke sound identity that ebbs and swells with the entrance and exit of each letter. The sonic identity evolves while repeating four times, relying on the same melody and chord structure utilizing different instruments and production techniques.
